At St Ursula’s we are very excited to be working towards our Eco Schools Green Flag. We have set up a school Eco Committee that consists of children from Year 1 up to Year 6. These children are voted for by their peers.

We are looking forward to getting involved in different events and have already started by planting trees in the school grounds that were given to us by the Woodland Trust.

We took part in the ‘Switch off Fortnight’ initiative and from this the Eco Committee decided to set up the Energy Detectives role. The children take responsibility for ensuring the classroom lights, whiteboard screens and taps are all switched off and the windows are closed. Classes that successfully do this on a weekly basis work towards a reward. It has been quite effective so far.

The main focus areas for Eco Schools this year will be ‘School Grounds’, ‘Biodiversity’ and ‘Energy’. We hope to achieve our Bronze award soon, closely followed by Silver.
