Summer Term 5
Dear Parents/Carers,
Michael Morpurgo Newsletter - Term 5
Welcome to Term 5. This is a letter to inform you of the areas of learning we will be covering in Term 5. Our Topic is ‘The Active Plant’. This is a unit of work that focuses on ‘Earthquakes and volcanoes’, and I am sure the whole class will thoroughly enjoy this unit of work.
-
In Literacy we will be looking at writing detailed descriptions and fantasy tales, planning stories and looking at how powerful adjectives, similes and onomatopoeia can add interest and detail.
-
In Numeracy we will be revisiting 2D and 3D shapes together with lines of symmetry. We will also be reinforcing and revising methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in readiness for SAT’s tests at the end of Term 5.
-
With KS1 SAT’s tests planned within a 2 week period of this term, (13th May - 24th May), we will also be looking at test style questions in comprehension, numeracy and literacy to help support your child.
-
In the International Primary Curriculum our unit is called ‘Volcanoes’. The subjects children will cover are, History, Technology, Science, Art, Music, Society and International matters.
-
In Science we will be looking at Electricity.
Homework is an important part of your child’s education and your support would be much appreciated. Homework is set weekly, (every Wednesday), and expected to be completed by the following Friday or Monday at the latest. Your child will also be set weekly spellings that will be tested on every Friday. Please can you read with your child on a daily basis and comment/sign their reading journal.
I hope that this information will help you guide your child to further their learning at home. If you would like to discuss any aspects of the curriculum or any other issues I am available after school on Tuesdays and Thursday and appointments can be made at the Reception Office.
Yours sincerely,
Miss H Nicholls
